Blogging from the boat!

July 18th, 2010 Randy 1 comment

So we swiped someones Internet and I’m blogging. We had quite an adventure this weekend. We did meet with the captain, and learned a bunch, but unfortunately had to use some of that knowledge.

One minute before my uncle gets here, I see a leaking faucet, so I try to tighten it. BAM it breaks, water all over. Now we can’t use the water until I fix this and no shutoff valve. So have to take the icemaker out to get to the valve (which didn’t exist, and I didn’t know that at the time). It arc’s the moment we get it out. The water or the corrosion caused the issue. So, off to West Marine, then Home Depot, then to another West Marine, 4 hours later, done. Then off to dinner to try and get some husband points back, we take the dinghy, have a great dinner. Done. Tomorrow it’s big boat time, off to Laguna.

We were .5 miles away from Huntington Beach Pier and the alarms start going off. High water mark for the bilge pumps. Damn, I forgot to turn them on, but why is there water? Sadie runs and checks, there is water in the bilge and when I check, a TON of water under the engine. DAMNIT. We ran back to the marina on one engine, Sadie did a killer job docking and we shut it off. An hour later the oil pressure alarm goes off (read, it’s been off for an hour, all power off to the boat). 20 minutes later of people looking at me scrambling, I find the switch and kill it. Call to the engine guy (who had just fixed something with the water cooling system), and he says, it must be some other pump you were supposed to fix. WRONG. He’s coming tomorrow. Sadie and I going to settle in and watch a movie. The boat is cool, but it’s screaming for some attention.

Where are the damn rockstars?

June 17th, 2010 Randy No comments

Seriously, every time we travel I have a need for a rockstar. I need to create an iPhone app to find where you can buy one. It would be web/database driven and i could customize it for anything. Anyways, I want one and can’t find them. I even found them in London, which was set at 1.15 GBP. Why do I pay $3 at the gas station?

Blogging from the plane – CT

June 17th, 2010 Randy No comments

Well, we’re off again, I think this is trip number seven. I’m almost tired of the plane. And as you know I’m not a fan of Chicago O’hare. But, we do have the option to finally do mobile boarding passes. Use them in California and Colorado so far. We still want to take puppy with us, but don’t know if she’ll fit under the seat.
